Happy Black Breast Feeding Week

August 29, 2017

It's #blackbreastfeedingweek and so many times we hear 'but why do black women need their own week?'

There are many good reasons. And that's why it's needs it's own week to discuss them all. The black breastfeeding week website has a ton of information to support this and I will also use this week to share it with you for a very important reason.

Number one: Black babies are dying at twice the rate (in some place, nearly triple) the rate of white babies. This is a fact.

These babies need the immunities and nutritional benefit of breast milk. According to the CDC, increased breastfeeding among black women could decrease infant mortality rates by as much as 50%.

Hypnobabies vs. Bradley Classes and Hypnobirthing

April 27, 2018

I tried two different methods with my first baby.

Bradley Method was the first class that I took. I paid a lot of money 600 for the class. They were a 12 week class series as well. The class was full of horror stories of birth from other moms and they basically scared me each class with stories of what could go wrong or showing videos of "what might" happen during interventions.  Yes, it made me want to avoid the interventions but it also left me with scary images that I was not able to release.

The class really was complete education but the way it was presented basically left me scared and defensive... that everyone was out to get me at the hospital and terrified because of everything that learned that could go wrong. I appreciate those that are teaching and using those other methods, but many teach “pain-coping” and “pain-management.”

This means they are teaching their moms that there MUST be pain, pain which must be coped with or ignored.

In Hypnobabies, we disagree. This is completely the opposite of what Hypnobabies teaches. We believe you can have an easier, more comfortable, joyful childbirth… period.

The other method that I later started looking into was hypnobirthing specifically the Mognan Method. It was inexpensive to get but it just consists of one small book and one CD. It uses breathing techniques, relaxation, and guided imagery exercises. These are important tools. HOWEVER, they teach that relaxation is enough. We disagree. Our program teaches that relaxation is a piece of the larger puzzle. It is one tool that our moms can use but for the most comfort you need multiple tools in your tool box. It is important to know that to you get that relaxation and hypno-anesthesia from using your hypnosis. You need all of these tools together to help create a shorter, easier and more comfortable birth and you need a way to control all of those moving pieces during birth.

Our medical grade hypnosis provides that control for our moms.

Hypnobabies teaches real effective hypnosis techniques and not the simple relaxation, breathing or guided imagery that is used in other popular programs. We emphasize that relaxation is a side effect of Hypnosis. It is important to distinguish that hypnosis creates the relaxation. Hypnosis creates comfort.

One of the most distinguishing features of Hypnobabies is that through the combination of our hypnosis tools, cues, compounding through consistent daily practice, and maintaining a constant stream of hypnotic suggestions during birth… our moms are able to reach a state of somnambulism, a deep state of hypnosis. This enables our moms to be able to use “eyes-open childbirth hypnosis.” This means they can easily remaining deeply in hypnosis while eating, drinking, dancing, walking, talking and changing positions, moving as much as they want during their birthing time.

It is important to note that our Hypno-moms are completely connected to their babies and birth partners during the birthing process, and aware of everything around them at all times. They are easily able to communicate with those around them and are always in charge of their birth experience.
